The Need to Connect

We seek to make an have connections to others to things to ideas.  We want to belong to a group. It is in human nature to want to be a part of something greater to feel acceptance. I often see that once we have become a part of something, or a member of the community it no longer interests us and we begin to seek acceptance and oneness in other areas often times leaving the group.

If you area mathematician perhaps you join a group of other like minded people.  The group is exciting, stimulating but then something occurs and you become bored. Joe always says the same thing, Sally never changes her point of view.  The vitality has somehow disappeared. Perhaps it is that you have changed and need stimulation elsewhere.

So off you go to join a group of another sort.  This may be the yoga group.  The class is wonderful, the instructor outstanding, but soon you begin to sit in judgement of others in the class. Perhaps you stay since it is the best time for you or change to another class.

I think you get the point. It is our innate nature as humans to want to be social and to belong yet often that very same desire breaks communities apart. There is an ebe and flow to society. The other aspect is our desire to be seen as unique and different. To stand out in some way.

The concept of being bored is interesting as many say being bored covers anger.  Why be angry at the group? Because it is static and isn’t that exactly what attracted us in the first place?

So the challenge is to find belonging and acceptance, to socialize and be an active member of a community but not become dull or routine.  To continue to grow and expand one’s boundaries.

I have no answers. Just many questions.  I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Change is inevitable and that’s how we easily get bored. We look out for new discoveries at some point. Still searching for the final destination of our life, the place we really belong to, that will amuse us til the end…
